Abstract

This study examines the aesthetics of rhymed prose and rhythm in the epistles of Jamal al-Din Ibn Nubata al-Misri. It approaches sajʿ not as ornamental sound alone, but as a structural device that organizes meaning, argument, emotion, and the relationship between speaker and addressee. Using a phonostylistic and descriptive-analytical method, the article studies cadence, syntactic parallelism, repetition, paronomasia, and antithesis. It argues that Ibn Nubata varies the length and density of his cadences according to rhetorical situation: brief, successive clauses intensify debate and persuasion, while extended cadences suit praise, description, and complaint. The artistic value of this prose emerges most clearly when sound pattern and semantic movement reinforce one another.
