An Exploratory Study of Urdu Literature on the Antichrist (Dajjal)
Abstract
This study presents a thorough and Comprehensive review of Urdu religious literature focused on the figure of Dajjal (Antichrist) and related themes, such as the signs of the Day of Judgment and the trials (fitan) associated with the end times. The research methodology involves an in-depth analysis of a wide range of primary texts, including general books, research articles, academic theses, and scholarly papers that directly engage with the topic of Dajjal. These texts represent various perspectives within Islamic scholarship and provide valuable insights into the theological, historical, and eschatological aspects of Dajjal’s role in Islamic thought. The study also explores how these works address themes of conspiracy, particularly the association of Dajjal with Jewish and Zionist narratives, which are often highlighted in these discourses. Major findings suggest that these works collectively not only deepen the understanding of Dajjal’s symbolic and literal significance in religious eschatology but also offer comparative analyses, examining the figure of Dajjal across different religions, particularly Islam, Christianity, and Judaism. The paper concludes by offering an introductory overview of Urdu books specifically dedicated to Dajjal, emphasizing their scholarly contributions in elucidating this complex and multifaceted subject within religious discourse.
