"The Rhetorical Techniques of Simile and Metaphor in Surah Aal Imran"
Abstract
This study explores the rhetorical techniques of simile and metaphor in Surah Aal Imran, focusing on their aesthetic and communicative functions within the Quranic discourse. The research examines how these two rhetorical devices serve as key instruments of divine eloquence, enriching the Quran’s linguistic texture and enhancing its persuasive power.
By applying analytical and descriptive methods, the study identifies various types of similes and metaphors in the Surah and investigates their contextual meanings and artistic harmony. Quranic similes in Surah Aal Imran portray vivid imagery that clarifies abstract theological and moral concepts, while metaphors transform spiritual realities into sensory expressions that engage both intellect and emotion.
The findings reveal that the rhetorical beauty of Surah Aal Imran lies in its unique balance between aesthetic expression and spiritual depth. The Surah employs simile and metaphor not for decoration but for revelation to teach, inspire, and guide. Thus, the study concludes that Qur’anic imagery in this chapter embodies the essence of i‘jaz bayani (the inimitable eloquence of the Qur’an), where beauty serves truth, and art serves faith.
